Local Composer’s Large Choral Work Performed in Weymouth

Fine Arts Choral of Weymouth performs Life by Carol Koffinke.

Boston, Massachusetts – December 5, 2024--On November 23, The Fine Arts Chorale of Boston presented a concert dedicated to women composers entitled “Musical Treasures”.  Local distinguished composer, Carol Koffinke’s large four-movement choral work Life was selected to open the concert.

Ms. Koffinke introduced the piece to the packed audience in the historic Old South Union Church in Weymouth, MA., briefly describing how each movement explores a different phase of life to include its triumphs and challenges.  Her composition uses nature to demonstrate how we as human being change throughout our lives starting off with “Birth” (spring), followed by “Prime” (summer), “Awareness” (autumn), and finally “Real” (winter).  The piece was accompanied by a mixed chamber ensemble.

All selections in the concert were composed by women composers to include local composer Ann Marie Cotter David, as well as Lili Boulanger, Amy Beach and others. The Fine Arts Chorale of Weymouth is led by musical director Richard Travers who has developed a synergistic relationship with talented accompanist Beth Dubuisson to elevate the Fine Arts Chorale’s concerts to their height.
